I always use buttercream to top cup cakes with... so can anybody recommend something different to use??
Hello, where do you find the best pace to buy fondant is?! I am new to cake decorating, Just a lot of the sites i'm given are american!! Thank you x
I buy mine from a local cake decorating shop in Birmingham. I've never bought any online because the postage is so expensive. I've also bought supermarket brands but they're not as good quality but are a good standby product if you have nothing better.
hi Jess
I buy mine online from surbiton sugarcrafts they are really helpful delivery is very fast and their delivery charges are quite reasonable especially if your buying in larger quantities, they are also so handy for a host of other bits and bobs which can sometimes hard to find in a smaller local shop, of course the drawback their is I can always find loads of extra things that I cant live without lol so always spend more than I intended.
Good luck and welcome to the dreaded hobby its a bit like quatermass gets seriously out of hand if you let it!!!!
best wishes
Les
Jackie, do you go to DIY Icing in Bham?
I use covapaste for covering cakes as it is quite a firm paste but very smooth. I use regal ice white for making my modelling paste unless it is black, red or navy in which case I now use M&B which is in a different class to the 250g packs of coloured regal ice (apart from the yellow).
I use the regal ice for modelling because it is much wetter than covapaste and doesn't dry out so quickly. I bought some from the supermarket once for the kids to use but it was sticky and virtually unusable. PS I always roll out on the large green board which means you don't have to use any icing sugar or cornflour and therefore prevents drying out.
