stacking cakes?

can anybody give me any advice on stacking cakes directly on top of each other. I want to attempt it this weekend for my grandaughters Birthday? I've seen someone use drinking straws as dowels?? i haven't done anything like this before, so any advice would be great... Debs

You can either use wooden dowels or plastic dowel if the base is fruit, If its sponge you require hidden pillars. Please note that each cake to be tiered must be on boards of the same size and shape as cake base. prior to tiering...ANy problems email me
