Debbie, did you use the club soda again?

Hi Gretchen, just being a nosy body here. I was wondering if you meant a 2 layer cake rather than a 2 tier cake, since this is just for fun.

The champagne does give this cake a unique flavor. I really think in order for it to be a pink champagne cake you need to use the pink champagne. Just my opinion. I really do not think you could call it pink champagne if you use club soda. Just a thought!

Sorry it was ginger ale.. No, I just went ahead and used water. Sorry Jeri about changing liquids, my son can't have any alcohol so needed to change it up.. The stripes worked wonderfully. Will keep using them in the future. Does anyone know if I still will need to use a nail in the center for the large cakes while using the stripes? Thanks guys

Debbie, I use a nail in anything over 10" even when I use the strips. Kind of like those guys who wear a belt and suspenders.

I use a nail and strips everytime. I had a cake that was not cooked all the way once and don't ever want that again, and the strips make it so even, I bearly have to level anymore.

Yes I said teir, that way we can practice our stacking skills. I did say small too... like 8" and 6" cakes. What did you use Debbie?

Debbie, so glad it worked out for you. I can't wait to bake mine this weekend. You look to be the first one to do it. That is so great. I hope you guys enjoy it!

I used a 6" and 10" (kids will take alot of it). The 10" that I baked with the stripes came out great. This will be the first time that I don't have to trim at all. I'm liking this. Forgot to put the nail in, will try to remember next time. Husband hopes I'll have it done today or tomorrow as he's been waiting for a piece of cake with his coffee...

I am using 10 and 6 also, did you have plenty of batter? It seems like it would make allot. Yes I love the stripes. My mom gave me a set, awhile ago. They were not in a box and didn't have instructions, I didn't know to wet them, and I almost burned down my apartment LOL!!!!!! I plan on giving the cake to the teachers at my daughter's school on Monday, the kids don't go back until Thursday so it wont be to bad giving them champagne. That is whay I am waiting until the weekend so it will be fresh for Monday's Welcome back Breakfast.

Yes Gretchen there was just enough batter for both pans. I have 3" deep pans. We're not into filling so for us the deeper pans work. When doing cakes for others I just don't add all the batter to the pan.. Glad to hear your apartment is safe, that is something I would do without instructions. I love cooking with liquers but since our son's accident that is one of the adjustments we needed to make.. No big deal. This week is free for us that is the only reason my cakes are done.. And if I had to do the cake surgery on a last minute basis I'll freak.. I'm already loving the club as it has given me challenge's to work on...
