YES it very much is! Especially around Christmas. You don't really see it much at weddings anymore...usually they have a regular "light" cake, and then you may get a small piece of fruit cake as the favour. I'm trying to work on a good fruit cake recipe - my mom's is good but she doesn't use any alcohol in hers.My other aunt KILLS her cake with liquor so its so overpowering so I'm not a fan of hers. I also have one for an English style fruit cake. I'm looking for one that has the right balance of all the elements. Do you have a good fruit cake recipe you can share?

I have one that I will share....but for me I play with it as I go along...as a matter of fact it's in the recipe discussion...I use lots of fruits...and keep adding spices until I get that taste I'm looking for....I get great reviews on my fruit cake...

I'm going to be testing amaretto in it next time i so a batch...and see how it come out...and also check out a few port wines...

hi guys, i am looking at a recipe for a chocolate pastry cream filling and they are asking for 1/2 cup half n half...what is the caribbean equivalent to half n half cause i doubt very much i would get it here n on that note the same question for shortening, does good ole Crisco work?
Comment by Teneisha Williams on August 17, 2010 at 10:51pm
I am not sure what the equivalent of half n half is...but crisco is shortening. They have modified their recipe in keeping with trans fat laws...so it's 0 grams trans fat...so it is not a fatty as it once was. Some cakers don't like that when it comes to making buttercream..they prefer using high ratio shortening...

From my reading half and half is really half heavy cream and half milk...so if u can find heavy cream and you definitely will find milk..:)...combine 1/4 cup heavy cream with 1/4 cup milk...
