I'm excited. I'm going tomorrow to enroll in a cake decorating course run by the local TAFE through Adult Education.
I'm really looking forward to it!
I find though that i don't really enjoy baking the cakes themselves and thus use a lot of the boxed cakes because i just want to decorate them lol.
Today i'm going to try to teach myself to make the fondant drapes.

I love your work. I live at Collaroy and would loveto have you come and demonstrate our our cake decorating branch of the Cake Decorators Association of NSW. I'm sure you will meet lots of local cake decorators and learn from them as they will from you. If interested please reply.

Hi to you all... good to finally see a group based in Australia as there is so much US and UK out there and sometimes they just don't have the same issues! I only found you by coincidence as Sandra joined '9 minutes ago' and so it was still on the recent activity on the home page ;) Good to hear your suggestion about suppliers - I have been going with Cakes Around Town but yours seems alot cheaper?

Hurrah! Australian decorators. Ever since the cake decorators forum closed I've been at a loss for Australian orientated stuff. Apart from Planet cake, there isn't much about in Aus.
I live on the Mid north coast of NSW, just south of Coffs Harbour. It is a waste land as far as classes and supplies are concerned. Most of my supplies are obtained via the internet. I started making cakes for my kids and then word of mouth has seen an increase in orders. I make a lot of novelty cakes and am currently learning how to make realistic sugar flowers from a local lady who does amazing work.
I have terrible battles with humidity here in summer, which plays havoc with my fondant. I don't do buttercream icing as it wouldn't last five minutes up here.
