Amateur cake decorators

This is for cake decorators that are just starting off. I see a lot of professionals but I want to know about those that haven't got to that point yet. From the looks of my cakes I still have a long way to go. Can anyone relate.

This silcone fondant mat is so wonderful for a beginner cake decorator. I used it today and it made it so easy to cover a 10" x 10" x 5" inch square cake with fondant. I don't think I could have done…Continue

Hi Katy, June, Brenda and everyone

It's great finally linking up with this group of avid bakers I'm in Hong Kong, and started cake decorating as ahobby a year ago. I enrolled in a short Wilton course  here and have made some disasters and successes! I enjoy baking but as am also working just have no time to plunge into cake business. Had a few orders but am so bad in pricing esp to friends. I have uploaded some of my cakes, hopefully it appears okay as am new in this site. Will keep in touch !

Hi, My name is Cindy and I am from Maryland.  I used to only bake for family and friends but recently started taking orders from customers.  Orders have been steady but I struggle with pricing.  I have the cakeulator but often do not charge what is says.  My biggest problem is feeling like I'm good enough to charge top prices.

Welcome Cindy
I looked at your cakes & they look pretty darn good. I would suggest you name your photos tho, otherwise they will get lost in the system. It is always a struggle what to charge. I always suggest cking with other bakeries/decorators, anonymously of course. I created a email so I could inquire about prices. Then I took my experience into consideration & went inbetween the lowest to the highest price. But one of the biggest
factors is where you live. I am in a fairly upscale area, so I can charge more if I chose.
You can't charge more than the market you live in. Best of luck. :o)

Thank You, June!  I just went through and named all of my photos.  =) and I'll start checking prices.
