Amateur cake decorators

This is for cake decorators that are just starting off. I see a lot of professionals but I want to know about those that haven't got to that point yet. From the looks of my cakes I still have a long way to go. Can anyone relate.

Just realised I haven't joined this group.  Really think I should as they don't come much more amateur than me sometimes lol.  I'm from Harrow, Middlesex in the UK.  There are some things I am pretty good at - baking is one of them.  I make a mean cake and it almost always tastes lovely.  Decoration is another matter sometimes.  Struggle, cuss and struggle a bit more.  I have discovered that, when you are learning, it really helps to have the right tools for the job and don't try to 'make do'. Once you understand the process, then try winging it.  I'm slowly getting better and better and it's almost all down to the wonderful members of CWB.
