This is for cake decorators that are just starting off. I see a lot of professionals but I want to know about those that haven't got to that point yet. From the looks of my cakes I still have a long way to go. Can anyone relate.

This silcone fondant mat is so wonderful for a beginner cake decorator. I used it today and it made it so easy to cover a 10" x 10" x 5" inch square cake with fondant. I don't think I could have done…Continue

Hey Natasha
Good for you for "jumping in". I would LOVE to have a spray gun, but being a hobby baker, I really can't explain the need for it. Occasionaly I search the internet for styles, prices etc. and dream. But honestly, I don't do enough cakes on a regular basis, and I fear it would stay in the box on a shelf. What I am hoping to do one day is check out Ebay, or a similar site. We have one in Canada called Kijiji. They sell a lot of used products, & if I could get a decent model relatively cheap, then I would consider purchasing one. I do know from dealing with a good Arts supply store, that you should spend good $$$, cause the cheap versions gum up, spray nozzels don't work etc. But if you are serious about purchasing one, I would post a comment on the wall and see if some really experience cakers can help you out.
Hey June....thanks for your feedback- I actually decided to post a comment on the wall - now i'm awaiting for feedback from fellow artists.
I tried my hand at a "handbag cake"...it came out really well.....i was really happy with the end result....my husband asked me....'so when are we cutting the cake"... i said "no we're not cutting the cake....we just look at it...and we sigh." He wasn't happy....lol...... (but my heart is a happy place every time i look at it)
My name is Goreti and I'm in Westport MA. My daughter gave me a certificate for a Wiltons class for mother's day. I really enjoyed it but I have learned more from watching videos and tutorials online. Although I really enjoy it, I know I have a lot to learn. I'm always looking for something new to try. Always looking for a new challenge. I have found that I LOVE making gumpaste flowers but need more practice with buttercream.
Goreti, I am like you, love making beautiful gumpaste flowers, but I need to work on my buttercream flowers and how to pipe evenly. I wish there were more local classes to take to improve my skills.
Try our new 3inch pre-cut hearts for only $12.95 for a package of 36. They are available in red, pink, white or an assortment. A great match with cookies, cakes etc. to make your Valentine's day fun and easy.
