Amateur cake decorators

This is for cake decorators that are just starting off. I see a lot of professionals but I want to know about those that haven't got to that point yet. From the looks of my cakes I still have a long way to go. Can anyone relate.

This silcone fondant mat is so wonderful for a beginner cake decorator. I used it today and it made it so easy to cover a 10" x 10" x 5" inch square cake with fondant. I don't think I could have done…Continue

Hi group. I am from Maryville, IL just 30 minutes outside of St. Louis, MO.  I have always enjoyed baking just in the last year are so decided to take the Wilton courses.  I have completed Course 1 and have signed up for Course 2 but it was canceled due to not having enough people to sign up.  So, I have been practicing on my own.  I have been looking for the Course 2 book but no luck yet.  Does anyone know how I can get the booklet?  I am learning alot from this site and I enjoy reading all the many comments.

Hi everyone,  I have looked at heaps of blogs and this one is my favourite.  It's just a pity I live on the other side of the planet because I'm out of sinc with the offers that come up.  I also found a site called CakeFu which does a lot of webinar type tutorials - but again - they are on at about 3.00am.  I'm keen - but not that keen :).

Hey Leah, those Cakefu webinars have replays later (usually a week or two afterwards) then you can click on the link and listen at your leisure, whenever's good for you.  Just fyi.

I need some help. Had a bad day with some MMF. Don't know what I did wrong. Same recipe that I have used and this is the first time I have had it become dry and couldn't get it to smooth out with kneading and adding water before using it.

Hello Everyone!  My name is Ck; I am owner/baker of a Cupcakery .com company: The Cavity Shoppe "Where the fillings are Sweet" and I have no formal training besides Wilton classes and a passion for cupcakes & cakes.  Since no formal training I still consider myself "Amateur" and want to learn more about decorations & methods/tips.  I joined this group to help others as well as gain knowledge from my peers.

hi, i'm quennie from the Philippines. I dont have any formal training in Cake decorating. Im proud to say that I`m self learned, most of my  knowledge in cake arts are from cake books, internet and Youtube. I started my cake business last year. I wanna join this group to encourage those who cant afford to enroll in any culinary school (just like me :))that we can bake and decorate cake by maximizing the use of  technology, as well as learn from my fellow cake lovers here :) Thanks for having me here :)

Hi All, I'm Natasha from Cape Town, South Africa. I too dont have any formal training- but i have an active imagination. I would look at something and say to myself....."I can do that!....thats easy." I love novelty cakes...and I love it when the little ones would run into the kitchen and they can actually identify the character I made.....that I find to be truly amazing. People I want to try my hand at the spray painting gun......(yes , yes I know...an amateur and she wants a go with the spray painting gun....but hey my motto is...."go big or go home" ....where can I find one without it costing me an arm and a leg on import taxes. I didn't find any at our local shops....please advise....
