Amateur cake decorators

This is for cake decorators that are just starting off. I see a lot of professionals but I want to know about those that haven't got to that point yet. From the looks of my cakes I still have a long way to go. Can anyone relate.

Hi everyone!

I am from Alberta,Canada and have been doing cake for my friends and family for about 2 yrs now.

I must say I have not done many and they do not always meet my expectations.( I am a freak of a perfectionist) which does not always do me any good.LOL. I have been asked by more friends to do cakes for them but I find I am afraid to in case I cannot do wht they want, or it turns into a disaster. I find my cakes that no one knows I am making for them seem to be the ones that work out great and the ones that were asked and planned for by people are the ones that have problems, go figure eh. Well its cool to be on a site with other newbies and to maybe learn a trick or two here and there along the way.

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum.  I love cake decorating, but don't get enough cake orders for the practice.  I am a licensed caterer and working the cake decorating into the business.  I have a really hard time with the buttercream and desperate for some help.

Hi all I'm Les from a small seaside town in southern England, I've been making cakes seriously now for just under a year and I really love making sugar flowers, just wish I could pick up a bit work as I enjoy making them so much but orders are really hard to come by here.

Hi, My name is Maria and I am from Brooklyn, NY.  I have been doing cakes for about five months now, after taking the Wilton classes and a lot of videos on You tube.  Also, YummyArts.com and other wounderful web sites.  I got hook on decorating when I started making cakes for my grandchildren.  I have 11 of them.  Its never to late to learn and being a seamstress, but only on the side.  I find that there is a lot of things that I can incorporate into cake decorating.  I am hooked, I love working with fondant and gumpaste.  I have posted some pictures of cakes I have done.  Still a amathur compare to many of you, but hoping to learn and get better and better.  Its so much fun.  God bless all.
