I tried to make royal icing lilies yesterday using a #70 tip.  Could not for the life of me  get a  nice sharp point at the end of my petals.  The icing kept breaking.  So I thought my icing was too stiff...thinned it and still had the same problem.  I gave up!

I use a 352 instead. Even my Wilton teacher doesn't like the 70.

Just found this tip--Tip 67, 68, 69, and 70 may make a lousy leaf but try pulling it toward you... it makes two ruffles on either side of a straight line. Great for scoring off cakes into individual servings. When cut down the center line all pieces have a ruffle border. Tip 80 make dainty lily of the valley in one easy squeeze. Just don't forget the tip 352 for the leaf behind.
I have not made buttercream flowers in so long I will have to get my tips out and see what I can (or can not) still do! I have been making the gumpaste flowers for a few years now and just don't ever use all my gazillion tips!
you may even need to pry open the "mouth" a little more. i heard from another wilton instructor that several of those leaf tips are too narrow to get anything good out of them.
I like 352 also. Those leaf tips are such a pain and I think 352 makes a much more natural looking leaf. Lilies don't need that line going down the middle, either.
I tried that. It' didn't work any better. I'm going to stick with my trusty 352 tip. :)

My thoughts exactly, Theresa... lilies do not need the line!! 352 works all the time.

hi all, wilton tip 352 and 349 work perfect for me, in class we use the leaf tip, and the teacher say's oh that's just the way it work's, didn't go to that teacher for the next class, cc told me what to use, you can also make a nice border with it.. how do you make the little lilly with 80 thanks
For the lily of the valley all you do is squeeze and release.
