Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi guys:

I'm soliciting ideas for a red and gold 50th birthday cake for a female. I'm seeing just red and gold...blank on the design. I've been trying to get ideas online but the red and gold cakes i see i wouldn't even attempt...:)...I don't want it to look too wedding-Y...I was told by the daughter that she wants a cake that is "big, nice and extravagant"...I can do simple and nice...but extravagant?...HELP!

Thanks,

Teneisha

Have you been to cakcentral to browse the gallery. There are hundreds of cakes that would fit into that. Just remember that any pictures you look at are do-able in your color scheme. Topsy turvy cakes always take the "wedding" idea out too. Does she have any special interest movies, shoppping, shoes, etc?

Extravagant sounds wedding-y to me...but what comes to my mind is red fondant with gold lace designs all over the bottom of the tiers...kinda like a "Skirt" and the maybe some gold flowers on top. Do you have any lace molds? You could also use decorating tips and cut out holes to resemble eyelet

Hi Karen:

No lace molds at this time. this is what i've come up with.

2-tiers....cake covered in red fondant...with feathers coming out of the top tier with a gold 50. The borders will be gold string pearls. A lil dog will be somewhere with some kind of shoes...

She told me her mom loves jewelery, animals and shoes. so I gave her this idea and she seems quite excited about it...so i'll be giving this a shot for saturday...:)

Thanks for the advice everyone...

Hi guys:

So I did the cake this weekend and I'm pleased with the results. It is posted on my page.

Thanks again,
