Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi guys:

I've been asked to make an open bible cake for a Minister. I haven't accepted the order yet...I made it clear that I have never done this before but will find out how to and if I can do it then we are in business...If I can't do it then a new idea  will be formed...any new ideas anyone?

Where do I begin?.. I don't have a clue...asking for a clue-in....:)

Wilton makes an open book pan...
I have used the Wilton Book Pan to make the open Bible
Yummyarts.com has a step by step video on making an open bible cake, however it does cost for the video download.
You first have to become a member of yummyarts the first month is free, then pay for the download...$20.00.
They have helped me so much I think it is worth the extra expense.

I don't think I would purchase the book pan for 1 cake. You can always make 2 - 9x13s and carve the shape out.

I would say do the open book pan from wilton - its a lot easier :).
Hi, the open Bible cake you will find out is one of the easier cakes you will ever do. Wilton as an open book pan which is great especially if you need alot of space for writing. My first open book cake was done with a 13 x 9 pan and i just craved a little cake from the centre. To make it look real, remember to include the book marker made from fondant or ribbon. It adds a nice touch. If you view my pics you will see the one I did for a female which is pink, brown and white. Good luck! Practise will get your there.
Soooooo...I gave the bible cake a shot using a 10" square tin...I posted pics on my page...I just carved away some cake from the middle and called it a day...it was a cake on a budget so 2 9x13 were not a part of the equation...I just need to work on my steady hand...I soooo do not like writing on cakes...or maybe I do not like it because i'm not too good at it...whichever it is..I need to get better...:)

Thanks for all the advice guys...
