Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Ok...I'm doing a bridal shower cake and I got some ideas from a few folks before...but the sister of the bride insists on ribbon and bow with brooch as well as cherry blossoms. It is a 2-tiered cake 9" and 6". any ideas on how I should do this so it doesn't look too busy? How do I get the cherry blossoms to "curl up"...is it the use of the balling tool ( I hate the one I have...that green one)...and how would I use it.

Thanks,

Teneisha

Teneisha - getting the cherry blossoms to curl up is really quite easy. First place the flower on a thin foam mat and use the ball tool to thin each petal. Move the flower to the thick foam mat and press the large ball tool into the middle of the flower - it will curl around the tool. Move it to something like an egg carton or a paint palette (or the official flower forming cups if you have them) and they will dry and hold their shape. I hope that helps!

As for it looking busy, I would just keep the ribbon and bow smaller and understated and in the same colors as the cherry blossoms and branches. I'm sure it will be beautiful! Can't wait to see pictures!
How about this--gumpaste bow on the top of the top tier, broach attached at the center and ribbons (2) cascading down to the bottom. Cherry blossoms scattered on the cake. Maybe more on the top tier like they are falling off and trickling down.

bow like this - http://www.cakeswebake.com/photo/nontraditional-baby-shower?context... Since it's 2 tiers you can create more movement in your ribbons.

If you haven't seen it yet, find Edna's YouTube on making bows. So easy!
I would put the swag and bow on the bottom tier and then scatter the cherry blossoms on the top...maybe a few thin branches coming up one corner for the blossoms to "cling" to and a few smaller blossoms scattered on the bottom but not to detract from the ribbon.....

By the way I use the green ball tool all the time..it helps to dust the foam pad lightly with cornstarch so the gumpaste doesnt stick and watch the pressure....I also put a bit of shortening on the ball....Michael's sells a set of three ball tools for 10 dollars in the clay/Fimo section....get your 40% off coupon....click the link then click the ad to print coupons...save the page for weekly coupons

God I love edit and spell check...hah!
Thank you guys...

The cake will be covered in chocolate fondant with green and fuschia accent colours. Was thinking of using green ribbon and bow...how do I blend the fuschia in nicely...clearly the blossoms will be in fuschia...do I just give it green centers?
I would have the lime green bow at the base of the cake with the brooch in the center of the bow and have a cherry branch coming up the cake from the bow. Not too many blossoms so it's not overpowering. Of you could have a bow at the base of the 6" tier and have blossoms around the cake...

I think that was the Wedding Design Pro software http://www.weddingcakedesignpro.com/index.html
I just did it in Photoshop...
Oh Karen! I hope this is the right one! I really want software like this, but I hate the really complicated ones! Even if this is not the exact one Jeanne uses, I would hope that this is "user-friendly" and allows me to create many different works of art! Love it! Thanks so much! :-D

Photoshop? Wow! Too bad I'm not good at using photoshop. LOL! Very nice creation, though! Teneisha, I like the first one, too! Good luck with the cake!

Yeah... I think Illustrator would be the best option out of the Adobe programs, but I only have Photoshop so I make due. There are only a few extra steps to take to get similar results.

I have heard good things about the other program mentioned though...
