Huh? What the heck is a 1/2 sheet of cupcakes? I have never heard of ordering cupcakes by the sheet only by the dozen. I would clarify with the client how many cupcakes they want. The equivalent to a 1/2 sheet cake? And what do they consider a 1/2 sheet... it can mean different things to different people. Now, I don't sell sheet cakes, but to me a full sheet is 18 X 26 (100 2x2" servings), a 1/2 sheet is 12 X 18 (50 servings), and a 1/4 sheet is 9 X 13 (25 servings). If someone asked me for a 1/2 sheet of cupcakes I would be thinking 50 servings or 4 dozen cupcakes... but who knows if that is the same as what they would be thinking. This is why going by size is such a pain in the rear. I only go by amount of servings needed as it is clear as day what they are looking for.
Regardless of that though, definitely charge them the normal price for them. They may be adding it to their present order, but that does not mean they are discounted. I start cupcakes at $3.00 each for a simple swirl.
Hope this helps a little... =]
Could be that we live in very different areas... around here I have never heard of sheets of cupcakes, and I've been in the biz for almost 3 years now. Could also be because I don't make sheet cakes so I'm not familliar with their cupcake equivalents. =]
Well ladys I asked my customer what she considered a 1/2 sheet. She said "idk 20-30". So this is what I told her I would do. The cupcakes will be the same flavor as the cake and just a simple white swirl on them with a fondant pink heart thrown on top. I am doing a lamb cake for her and the lambs nose is going to be a pink fondant heart so then they will match. I am charging her $10 a dozen and she ordered 2. My prices are very cheap because well Im still very new and learning. (Heck most of my cakes I did for free, including every single big cake of mine) If you look at my cakes you can tell why. I only took the course 1 Wilton class at my local Hobby Lobby and the rest I am figuring out on my own. Thank you all for your help.
