Whenever I use non-pariels, more of them end up on the floor than on the cake. I just can't hold on to them! I end up having to put icing on my fingers to pick them up, but that takes away the shine. Anyone have tips for taming these little suckers?

I have never used one, but I have seen a tweezers made especially for the non-pariels, actually the dragees, the gold and silver balls. It looks like it would be a good buy. I saw it at KitchenKrafts.com
Oh, thanks! The problem is actually having long nails and every time I talk about cutting them off, my husband freaks!
Since I wanted to purchase dragees and they are hard to fine in my area I found out a second method. Now I have all of my supplies as of YESTERDAY, but I have not yet played with it. I can't remember Where I saw this suggestion, I'm sorry!
So I have NO IDEA if it will work or not.
Fondant rolled to the size that you want to have the ball.
In a baggy or small bowl, place Wilton Shimmer Dust (and there are several colors too, including Silver, Gold) and roll them in it.
Since you can eat fondant and not break a tooth, I thought this would be a heck of a lot better to use for kids and of course me too. LOL.
That's a great idea. You know, my kids eat them even though I tell them not to. I guess because they're pretty, they can't resist. Now if there were only a way to make broccoli shiny and gold...

I use them on cupcakes a lot and I just make sure that I put a few in a dish and pick them up with my fingers and sprinkle them on... always put them on the frosting when it is very fresh. And the don't work well on a flat surface at all. Even with this.. I still have them everywhere. I always put whatever I am putting them on on a cookie sheet and it makes the clean up easier anyway.

As for the broccoli... have you tried luster dust? ;-)
