Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi Everyone.

I need some advice.

I am doing a 4 tier cake and one of the tiers has shiny metallic silver on it (shiny like foil paper).  What should I use?  I have heard of luster dust mixed with vodka, edible sheets, and edible spray.

I do not have an airbrush machine so that is out of the question.

HELP!!!!

Thanks.

You can tint your fondant grey. And when good and dry, use a shot glass and put in a generous amount of silver lustre dust. Add vodka, or any clear alcohol, or lemon juice. Add on drop at a time. Apply to your fondant. Alcohol will evaporate and you should be left with a shiny silver look. If you want metallic...I understand you can get airbrush metallic food colouring. You don't need a airbrush to apply. Think using a good brush would work. I've never used airbrush colour. I would roll out a piece of white fondant, coloured grey, let it dry and experiment. I often do that to see what I can achieve. Hope this helps.... :o)
