Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Ok, once you get past some of the disgusting ingredients, are they judging the carpenter's work or is it really a beauty pageant?

I've been really disappointed in this show. I love cake shows because I can usually learn some new technique or be awed by amazing artistry. They don't give these poor contestants enough time to do anything of quality. It's just an hour of watching people run around. Not interesting to me. I won't be watching it any more.
Don't care for the show at all. The ingredient that they have to use is sometimes very rediculious, like seaweed. They don't want the stuff that taste good just seeing that they can come up with the such short time.
All I know is, they couldn't pay me enough to put me in that situation. It's completely unrealistic. I would hate to be the client receiving the cupcakes for their event - they are going to get sub-par product no matter how skilled or talented the contestants normally are.
I think this show is totally rediculous. Strange ingredients... I wouldn't eat a cupcake with squid ink or seaweed in it if they paid me. Then there's the last part of the challenge when they have to make 1000 cupcakes in two hours....yeah right. I won't be watching anymore episodes...big waste of time.
I watched last night and once again I agree what the cupckes are made of should be feed to the fish. Call me old fashioned but a cake, pie or cupcake should be a sweet treat not an exotic salad cake. I too won't be watching this program anymore.
Sorry it's not about our yummy treats..
I saw the first episode and was highly disappointed. My first impression was not a good one. I run a cupcake service and this does not make the cupcaking community look appealing at all.
as with everyone else, i was immediately disappointed. too much sensationalism and totally unrealistic. i've noticed that about most of the food networks shows and challanges. they've changed their format so much that i hardly bother to watch them anymore. amazing wedding cakes, ultimate cake off, and cake boss are still my favorites!
talk about sensationalism, that is the Cake Boss all over! Was on his site and there was somebody on there saying that they charge 100.00 consultation fee and it does not go towards the cake when ordered. I could see maybe charging that but if they ordered a cake so much of it should go towards the cake, if they don't order you know that they were doing it just to meet him.

I have tried to watch this program but I can not get over the disgusting parts of it. I've read the last show description about the challenge of ingredients, I just have to hard of a time. I can't get over that.
I like the cake shows with normal ingredients the fun and challenges to make tasty and delightful cakes.
I am pretty sure I won't be watching this show.

The Food Network should be reading all of our responses to this question...maybe they would learn a thing or two from us and change the format to something a little more realistic. :)
