ebony I would ice a thin layer of frosting all over the cake, this will give the stars something to stick to.

Hi ebony , well i agree with Sherry you should do a crumb coating of icing first so that the stars will stick better but Yes absolutly You can put stars ont he side of the cake Like i did

The stars will stick directly on the cake. It's just the heat that makes them slide.
