Alpine shortening where can I get it or what else can I use?

After many tries I have realized I am not using the right shortening for my butter cream. Thank you to a new friend who helped me realized that. I am getting ready for Logan's birthday cake and getting kinda nervous. I have been using crisco with no trans fat. Where can I find  alpine is it the same thing as lard? I only have Wal mart and some A&G stores in my area. Thank you everyone.

Walmart's brand is supposed to have a shortening that has trans fat. They were clean out of it last time I went there, but I did discover that my grocery store brand had trans fat. We have Stop ' Shop where I live.
Start reading the labels of the local store's generic brands. You definitely need transfats in this type shortening.

Until 2 weeks ago I was using Food Lion shortening. It was the best I could find locally. I just switched to a commercial hi-ratio Wesson product - 50lb box for $48 so it's a little cheaper than the store brand but you have to use a lot of shortening to justify the purchase. It is so much better in my BC than the store shortening.
THanks Deah, I don't won't need 50lbs lol just a gallon or half for Logan's cake then I have the other 3 girls in Dec so I don't need a lot. Thank you Deah for pointing that out to me. I found something that said good for pies etc its a small white tub. I think it said Alpine but I think it said Lard on it. Would that be right?

Thank you Theresa
Lard is animal fat not vegetable fat. You definitely don't want to use animal fat in your icing. ;-)

Alpine is a brand name for hi-ratio shortening. As long as the label says icing shortening I think you'll be alright. Here's a link to an Alpine listing so you can see the packaging http://www.foodservicedirect.com/product.cfm/p/45408/Alpine-Icing-S...

make sure you get the walmart vegtable I made the mistake of just picking up the walmart brand and it was animal fat not a tasty frosting

Thanks Deah, I went to it and checked it out I hope to make time out today to go to the little store down the road they keep things that not everyone else has. So, maybe their name brand will work. I am so glad you helped me on that.

Thanks Kim will do
Deah, no luck but was only able to go to Sams, and Wal-mart read everything. Planing on going to the little store by the house tomorrow its been a long day. I know why now that is the reason why my butter cream is not custing. I wonder what else I could do if I can't find it. I don't want to order that much I don't need that much just enough for the girls cakes I will find something I know there has to be something somewhere.
