Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am doing a wedding cake in June. They want it tall so I have to add fake tiers. They only need it to feed 125 or so. Where is he best place to put the dummy cakes? On the top or the bottom?

Well, if you put the dummy cakes on the bottom, it would make for a very nice and sturdy base for the rest of the cake. However most cake cutting (the photo op with the bride and groom) is done using the bottom tier. Another advantage of keeping the real cake towards the top is that if there is any cake left over, it will be a small sized tier, easier to manage and store.

Perhaps you could just sandwich it? Real cake, fake tiers, real cake? I guess it just depends on what you and your client decides.
If your bride is saving the top tier, it may as well be a dummy cake. No cake saved for a year, even wrapped well, tastes good on the first anniversary. But, it really depends on how many tiers you are making and what size they are, so you have enough servings with real cake.
