Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My wife is a hobbiest cake decorator. But it's getting to be a pretty big hobby, which I think is great cause she really enjoys it and is really good. I was wanting to get her a real nice professional type of pans and or kits she has some cheap stuff from wal-mart like pipe bags and tips and she also has some neat pans that she found at a yard sale that the ring comes off I think those are 12" 10" and 8". But she doesn't have any square pans. Can anyone out there please give me some ideas for a Christmas gift that would make her hobby more enjoyable for her. Also she will be doing her sisters wedding cake this June.

I purchase a lot of supplies from http://www.globalsugarart.com/ and from http://www.countrykitchensa.com/ there are a lot of online places to purchase supplies. The pans I love most are magic line pans especially the squares they have very sharp square edges.

The tools that I would never be without are my Ateco Mat... http://www.globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=20785&name=Fondant...

My fondant roller I have the large and small Wilton ones you can get at Michaels with the 40% off coupons

My Bench Scraper... a must for icing those straight sides http://www.globalsugarart.com/search.phpsearch=bench+scraper

I love my tool set too...

and of course... I'd NEVER be without my 2 kitchen aides! I have the standard one and a big 6 qt one. LOVE them both. Unless she is doing big cakes the standard size one is great!

I have a LOT of cake toys so it is hard to say what I would ever do without but these are a few that I use all the time.

You have a lucky wife that you would be so thoughtful! Make sure you go onto the websites and sign up for their email newsletters... around Thanksgiving they always offer great sales!
All I can say is we all wish we had such a thoughtful husband!! I get boring stuff like socks. Not that I've received a Christmas present in the last few years, but I can do without the socks any way.
My husband got me a professional quality turntable for Christmas last year and I LOVE it - it's got a heavy base and nice, level, metal top with grooves that show where an 8, 10 and 12" cake would be centered. I use it for just about every cake I make (except the sheet cakes of course!)
The Counter top mixer (I happen to love Kitchen Aid) is a great toy to have. When I am making a cake, the Kitchen Aid mixer is going constantly....to make the cake batter, to make double batches of the Buttercream icing, to make the Royal Icing, and best of all to help me make the fondant.

Like Jeri said the Ateco mat is wonderful.

The list is endless Adam, and if your lucky wife really gets into cake decorating "she will need it all" , right fellow cakers.
Oh I totally agree... you do "NEED" it ALL! I do not have any children at home anymore ours are all grown and on their own so my "cake" room is one bedroom and my "craft & sewing room" is the other bedroom! My cake supplies fill an 8' closet plus a huge storage cabinet. And that does not include all my pans and Cardboard circles& squares and cake drums and cake stands and cupcake carriers... those are all stored in the garage in giant plastic totes....
Adam... she will love whatever you get her and please... direct her to this site and we will help her with any questions that she has!!! And our advice is always FREE!!! Best bargin on the internet! :-))))
Awesome hubby! I totally agree with Jeri. My choice of pans is Magic Line although I do have a few Fat Daddio's. I also have two Kitchen Aid mixers a 6qt. and 4 1/2. I say go for a 5qt- 6qt. I love my Agbay cake leverler!! I recently purchased the Sweet Wise food grade vinyl mats and I give a two thumbs up and it's price is sweet@ $15.99. I love my Ateco mat too but never ever cut on it! Sharon Zambito and Jennifer Dontz's dvd's are fantastic too. Turntables, cutters, molds ect. You could get her a loaded Visa or gift card too.

I also like kitchenkrafts.com along with sites Jeri said.

I forgot all about the DVD's Kelly! I have all of Sharon's DVD's and for gumpaste flowers, Nicholas Lodge has some very good ones... and so does Jennifer Dontz. They are all such wonderful teachers!!!! And Sharon is releasing her new one very very soon!!!!
