I buy my fondant in the 20 lb buckets so don't think I will be looking at Michaels for it. I'd hate to see what 20 lbs of Duff's fondant would cost... and I'd die before I ever use Wilton again. :-)
Hey Grace! That Michael's is where I took my Wilton classes 7 years ago. :) I'm in Wisconsin now, but it brought back a ton of memories when you mentioned that store. ♥
Grace P.Sloan said:I was at Michaels in Escondido, Ca. today and saw the Duff products on the shelf. Had not been at Michaels in a couple of weeks and was surprised to see the products. I was shocked to see the fondant at $19.99. I had to look twice because I thought I had read incorrectly. I love the Ace of Cakes but I would make my own fondant before I would pay that much for a small can of Duff's product. I really do not want to pay for a name. I enjoy his show but I also enjoy other shows like Rachel Ray and I don't buy her expensice items either.
The store that I went to is in a small mall at Valley Parkway and Tulip. It is a good sized store next to a Barnes and Noble book store. I don't know if you took your Wilton classes from this store or their old store that was further down Valley Parkway in a large strip mall. In seven years Escondido has not changed much. When I attended the San Diego Cake Club meeting last evening. We had a discussion about the Duff fondant at Michael's. You can imagine how suprised I was to come home and find it as a topic of discussion on this site. We have friends in Wisconsin and my brother lives in Racine. Also have family in Rockford, Illinois.

Yes, that's the store! Next to the bookstore! Small world. I actually lived in Poway at the time and my best friend talked me into taking the classes so we could make cakes for our daughters' 1st birthdays (they were born 1 day apart). Who knew where it would lead me? :)

Unfortunately there is no group like that where I live. I'm basically in the middle of nowhere in Northern Wisconsin. I'd have to travel about 3 hours in any direction to get to a larger city, so I'm pretty much on my own. That's why I love this site! There's so many ideas, encouragement, comfort and tips!!
