Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am making a cake this weekend and don't want to cover it in fondant, but I want to put a diamond pattern in fondant around the sides.  Will the fondant stick ok to the butter cream, or do I need to do something to help it.  Or should I just cover the cake in fondant first, which is what I was trying to avoid.

You can put fondant on buttercream directly...there's no issue with that.  If the buttercream has crusted abit you can just add a very small tab of water to the fondant and apply it to the BC.

That is what I thought, but I am on a tight schedule and don't have time to start over if it started sliding everywhere.  Thanks for the input!

Yep, what she said:)

Another way to apply the diamonds is to pipe an open circle or 2 of b'cream on the back of the fondant.

Fondant will stick just fine to the buttercream!  Good luck with your cake :)
