I had watched a video on making cake balls & the lady was saying you use lime jello in a white cake mix to make keylime cake balls. I ablsolutly love strawberry banana jello, & have been wanting to use it in a white cake to try it. I got to thinking this morning about flavoring the buttercream with the same jello, has anyone every tried it? I think thats what I will do today, try the jello in both & see how it turns out. I will let ya'll know

It's so funny, I was thinking about that yesterday when I was making chocolate buttercream. Let us know how that goes.
i have made the white cake with the strawberry banana jello in it. The batter tastes good, but i dont think i will be using the jello in the buttercream, it turned my cake pink( & I dont want pink icing lol). I have made some banana cream pudding & i am going to make this cake a 4 layer with the pudding in between. I did however take some banana cream pudding powder & put it in some left over buttercream I had, to see how it tasted, it tastes pretty good, but i dont think i'm gonna put the pudding in the icing on this cake. I will get some banana extract & use that inplace of the vanilla next time.

That's a great idea, Jennifer. The possibilities would be endless. I use jello pudding mixes, cream chease and heavy cream to make most of my cake fillings. Everyone loves them.
Ok, all done with the cake. I put a box of strawberry banana jello in a white cake mix, filled 4 layers with banana cream pudding. I also added a box of banana cream pudding to my buttercream icing. The recipe I use calls for
22 Tbsp of butter
11 Tbsp of crisco (2/3 cup)
5 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
1 Tbsp vanilla
2 lbs powder sugar
I switched the Tbsp amounts on the butter & crisco, to try & cut down on the butter flavor. I added the pudding mix & ended up having to add little more whipping cream to get the softness I wanted, I did pour in just a little bit of half & half just for good measure. All in all I really like the cake, next time I think I will try banana extract in place of vanilla extract. I was just too lazy to run to town just for extract( nearest store is 15 miles, mostly highway, lol) So I think having the pudding powder in the icing makes it a little more heavier, but its still good, & it smells oh so good. The design is also something I"ve been wanting to try. I"m gonna put the skull on my husbands fathers day cake. Now I just need to take some to my neighbors for taste samples. lol

sorry girls for my ignorance, it all sounds so very yamm. do u put it dry (jello/jelly) in to the dry mix and than add all the oils and eggs atc? i would really like to try to make it, but we have different names for everything in Australia he he.;0)
Hi I would also like to try that but I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing, is it jelly? and do you diluted first or just add dry to mixture.
I used the Jell-o brand jell-o, the powder you have to add 1 cup boiling water to & disolve the powder then add 1 cup cold water & then put in fridge to set. I just added the powder to the box cake mix then added the water, eggs & oil that the box called for.
thanks, yes, now i see. we call this jell-o - jelly and a make is aeroplane ;0). thanks for sharing , very very much. i'll try this one today, i have a day off and a packet of jelly in the pantry. thanks again girls . i love this website , every one is so friendly!
