Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

What's worse than window shoppers for a baker?  They stare at my stuff for ten minutes... "Are you looking for anything special?" I ask... "No, just seeing what you have," then she just buys a coffee... or leaves without buying anything.  What was I missing?  Why won't you tell me what you're looking for so I can have it next time your here...  It's nice when they come back and buy something... but the ones you never see again?  What did I do wrong?

I understand your frustration but I also see the other side.  Sometimes I have a craving for something that I can't really identify.  I'll know it when I see it.  Maybe that's what's happening.

People simply like to look at sweets, that's all.  Most didn't want anything to begin with and therefore didn't buy anything.  Some didn't want anything to begin and end up buying.  And some are just looking for future reference - hence coming back.

Wow I don't get it. I don't like to just look at sweets, I like to eat them! LOL There is no way that I would go into a bakery and not see something I want!

But, maybe they were just checking out what you had to offer for future cravings? Or possibly they need to purchase a cake for an upcoming event and just wanted to, again, take a look?

I doubt its anything you did. But if there is something that they wanted but didnt see and that was the reason could you maybe have a sign up that read something like "Dont see what your craving, tell us." I dont know something like that though.

Even before selling, I looked at sweets and never bought anything.  I know a lot of people who do that.  Sweets are awesome, but we don't necessarily need to be eating them just because we see something we like.
Sad fact-many home bakers go to professional bakeries for ideas and inspiration so rather than it being something you're doing wrong, it's probably because of what you do so well.
