This is what I found :  Gum paste is versatile and is stronger than Fondant. It can be rolled very thin, used for making delicate shapes or molded into figurines, trees, and animals. Pieces can be "glued" together to make large standing ones. Gum paste dries very quickly if thin, but takes a long time to dry if thick, sometimes 24 hours or more.

Fondant can be used to make roses, decorations and the likes, but I do believe that you can make more realistic looking flowers with sugar paste (also called gum paste I believe)...

Thank you very much Judy

But I don't think you would want to eat the Gum paste as for fondant you can eat.  I would not eat Gum paste.  Perhaps someone else might.

Rolled fondant and sugarpaste are the same thing.  Sugarpaste is the term used in the UK & Australia.

Gum paste is the same as flower paste.  Flower paste is the term used in the UK & Australia.

Gum paste is merely fondant with some natural gums added that increase stretchability, strength, and allows it to dry quickly.  It's completely edible--tastes like Necco wafers--if, a bit hard.

I tried Rob Ben-Israel's formula that uses Satin Ice. I see a difference between that and regular fondant. Think I'll do a comparison and post the pics on my blog.
Hum, this is interesting. I am going to make my own version of the "rose petal machine" that Ron uses. I am planning on taking every petal off of a rose and making an individual mold of each petal. Than I want to make a mold of the inner "bud" area. I guess ordering silicone molding stuff before gas prices go much higher is a big must. I will post pics of this, and what I have discovered. This is fun, ya know?
