I got a cake order for a turkey hunter Ive found a great idea on the internet I wanted to see if anyone has any Ideas on how to make a realistic turkey feathers or where I may get a mold for one? I found where you can order a template for a edible image and print it yourself but I don't have a printer for that? Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. I wanted to do like turkey feathers and shells. Thanks Chrystal

You might check with your local super market and ask them if you bring a picture in if they will print it for you for a price. If I were you I'd find a pict.. trace it then use that as a pattern and paint it.
I just recently made feathers out of chocolate. It was my first time but I thought they turned out pretty good. I piped chocolate in a thick line then took a angled paint brush and brushed from middle out until I got the texture I wanted. Then maybe you could paint them after that. If you find a better way I would love to know. My whole family are hunters and would love to use in on a cake. HTH.
I would love to see pictures of your cake with the chocolate feathers. I thought about doing a thin gum past one and paint it im still debating. I have read a few ways to do them. Have you ever painted on wafer paper?
it is the Mardi Gras cake in my photos. No I haven't sorry, but I think you could get the texture you wanted with gumpaste. the links that Sherry gave looks like that is what they did. You could use food markers to paint. Or I use airbrush colors with a paint brush instead of gel/vanilla. Seem to have more control and a stronger color. Good Luck!

Chrystal, FYI: Mike Mcrarey used modeling chocolate for his Big Bird cake. He was at the Austin Cake Show and did a one hour demonstration on modeling chocolate for us. Lauren Kitchens was also there and she also used modeling chocolate for her "muppets" and Elmo.
