Hi Everyone,
I am just curious about what fondant tastes the best...I have tried Fondarific (liked the colors but not so much the flavors that went with them) I would like to keep it onthe vanilla (or neutral side)...being new to fondant...I have made the marshmellow fondant (loved it) and now I am looking into Satin Ice ?? the one Buddy uses....any feedback from anyone I would greatly appreciate...also, with the home made fondant what is the best way to get true even colors..or am I better off ordering colored fondant and make my own white fondant....so many questions........I will start there......but I am also curious about gum paste???

Sue, you will find many differing answers to your question. Everyone has their own opinion.
I, for one, never purchase fondant. Not because I don't like it. For me it's more economical to make my own. I use the Michele Foster's recipe. You can find it in the recipe section. Coloring it is easy unless you need red or black. Red takes a ton of color and for the black I start with chocolate fondant, that way I use less color and the taste stays great.
The next person will say I only purchase mine, not worth my time to make it. Fondarific and Satin Ice are favorites of many so I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Since no one eats gumpaste you only need to worry about the workability of the product. I purchase Wilton with a coupon for 40% off which makes it $6 per pkg.
Thank you Eileen for the coloring tip....I use your recipe for the marshmellow fondant...do you use the gel colors or do you use the liquid food coloring......or is there some other colorant out ther that is easy to add....I always found it easy to add drops of food color than to use the gel, but maybe there is a secret to that...?????
that you for replying Jeri...I tried Wiltons too (a couple years back) and my first thought was why would anyone ever want to put that on a cake and ruin it...so, I never ever thought of using it (fondant) again, but now it seems like it is everywhere.......I also order "The Mat" from Sweetwise? can't wait for that to come too....I really need to invest in a better rolling pin ( I still use my grandmothers wooden one)..a heavier one....and maybe a few more small tools....I am trying to add a few things as I go.......
I will post pictures of what I created next month......I try to take pictures of everything I do to see the progress I am making....
This is an amazing wesite and I am glad to be a part of it
I have the Sweetwise mat and have used it many times now....and I love it. It makes working with fondant so easy. The best part is that it is so EASY to move the fondant on to your prepared cake. I have nothing bad to say about this mat.
As for the fondant, I have never purchased fondant, I have made my own from day one, for it has worked so well for me....I am sure that if I needed large amounts of Red or Black, then I would just purchase it, but so far I have not needed much of these two colours.

Hi there,
I have not tried making my own fondant yet, but I hope too one day (when i have more time! hee hee)...but i've used Fondariffic and Satic Ice. I like the flavor and workability of Satin Ice...it's nice. However when i buy the black color satin ice it always is dry...dont know if it's just the one i buy!
I also bought the MAT and have used it once...that was a LIFE saver :)
