Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Quick question.... I am going to be making a baby shower cake next week.  I don't want to cover the entire cake with fondant and decorate.  Instead I am going to cover it in buttercream and add fondant decorations.  What is the BEST way to adhere the fondant to the buttercream?

Thanks!!!

Thanks Sherry! I can attach the decorations the morning of the baby shower.
I had the exact same question and posted it a little while back. Trust me - you can just use a little bit of water on the fondant and then stick it right to the buttercream. I refrigerated my cake beforehand so the buttercream had crusted nicely. The decorations stayed on very well, even while transporting over bumpy roads. :)
If you choose to use b'cream as Sherry mentioned - pipe an open circle w/tip 3 or so. This will allow suction to be created holding the item on better. Don't make your fondant decos too thick....less than 1/4" (the thickness of a cake circle) is about right.
Yes, a light brushing of water or gum glue will work also.
Thanks Eileen and Lynne! Great advice!
Just a dab of buttercream will do. If you are laying a flat piece that is thin sometimes just pressing it on will make it hold. If not just brush lightly with water.
