Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Looking for advice from all cakers.  I want to sculpt a cake (from a 9 x 13") (a truck) and I was wondering if I can use the WASC recipe (for everyone loves this cake so much), but if you all feel that I should use a pound cake recipe that is the route I will do. My concern is - does cutting the sides off a baked cake weaken it to much to take the weight of fondant. Thank you all.

I always use the WASC recipe and it carves really well.  Some folks freeze it before carving but I don't.  Either way, you should be fine.  Be sure to use a sharp serated knife.
Thank you so much for your quick response to my questions Deah. I now have decided I am going to go with the WASC recipe, for people I bake cakes for love the recipe...I will try a trial one...and donate it to my husband's office, it will be a truck and they are a construction firm so I will feel I am not making this cake for nothing. Thanks again.

I have tried the WASC recipe.

I think that you should be able to use just any cake mix flavor & get the same excellant results.
