Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I did this for the practice because I've NEVER worked with fondant before. I enjoyed it. The bride specifically wanted buttercream icing. She wanted a chocolate cake, but thought the bride shouldn't have one.  So, I covered it with shaved white chocolate, just for fun.  See pics.  Grooms cake was specifically a coconut cake, LSU football field.  Didn't quite enjoy doing that.  The icing is was a marshmallowy icing covered with coconut.

My next project is learning out to carve fruit.

You did great for your first one! Did you deliver it yet? I bet the bride love it!
Thanks, Karen. I delivered it yesterday. There are plenty flaws, but the price was right ($50 for materials only) and the bride was thrilled. She had a pool wedding and her dress was a tropical party dress. The colors in the cake flowers are the colors in her dress.

Can't say I'll ever do this for a living, but I do enjoy dabbling with cake decorating. I had signed up to take a fondant flower class in July, but it got cancelled. So, thanks to youtube ..... I learned a little.
I remember what my first gumpaste rose looked like...a cabbage is what it looked like lol.....it just takes practice and some good instruction...Edna De La Cruz has some great tutorials on flower making on her site and on you tube. That's great when the bride is happy!

I think you did a wonderful job.
Thanks to all. Appreciate the comments.
Good job. I liked the football field, why didn't you like do it? Can you image doing the Stadium like some people have done. My friends daughter is getting married in March and her groom has said he wanted that. She said between, me, her mom, and another of our friends who likes to dabble in cake decorating, we should be able to do it. I am not sure about that. But that field seems an easier alterative.
Wow, these are beautiful and CONGRATULATIONS on your first wedding cake! Love your flowers they are splendid.
Thanks. You are too kind .... There were plenty of flaws, but the bride was thrilled, so I guess it was ok~ ~ *smile*
