Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I need some suggestions on how to make my cake board a dark sky for the Star Wars spaceship cake. I have a silver board and tried using a blue color spray from Duff's, a cake graffiti spray, but it rubbed off. The spaceship is silver and I wanted a dark blue board. Thanks. Linda

Cover the board with dark blue fondant.  Wilton's has black pre-colored fondant in the small box now, too.  Use some piping gel to help it adhere to the board, just roll it out to a couple of inches bigger than the board, pipe the gel on in a spiral and lay the fondant on.  You can use royal icing to make tiny dots all over it like stars, or tiny white fondant or gumpaste balls. Maybe use flow-thin royal to spatter on with a stiff brush like you would paint.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking I would cover it with fondant. I like the idea of the royal icing splatters to give it a little more than just a plain color. This is a big project for me and it is for my son-in-laws birthday and I wanted it to look good. Hopefully my ship will look like the one in the movie!

Good luck and have fun--don't stress too much over it and it will be fine!
