Ideas for genetics/chemistry cake?
I have a family member who is having a baby girl, her family is having a baby shower for her and decided to have a genetics/chemistry theme, yes it is very different, I am looking for ideas, I was thinking of molecules, dna, made out of fondant type of thing but looking for YOUR creative ideas. Keep in mind I am not a professional!!! Although this family is quite creative so I need to try to do something different.
Looking forward to ANY ideas, PLEASE! The shower is July 31 so I need to do this SOON! Thanks, Wendy

Do you have any idea how they are decorating or what the partyware is? That might help you with the design. I'm thinking a replica of a positive pregnany test is a bit late at this point-----hmmmmm---- that really is a different kind of theme than what I am used to!

they are using test-tubes filled with m&m's for favors and will probably hang dna thingies from the ceiling, they just started figuring it all out too, I think I want to use molecules and dna things just not sure how to use them yet unless I hear of an idea I like better...THANKS....KEEP THINKING!

Cut a 2-d shape from a sheet cake or a 3-d hand carve a few rounds that are stacked on top of each other and use rice krispy treats for the neck and a dowel rod.

Are you familiar with Cake Central? I went there and searched both "genetics" and "chemistry" and both came up with a few cake ideas! See if that might spark your imagination? They had one that was like Mindy's suggestion! And one like you were talking about.

DNA is a very complex molecule like a twisted ladder....what about some cute cartoon-y models of an egg and sperm flirting with each other? I attached some simple diagrams of DNA...perhaps you could make a gumpaste model and lay it down on top of the cake? Oh yeah and one cutsey pic of a person next to a cell then a gene then DNA...

I know your genetics/chemistry baby shower is of the past now but I just came accross your message and wanted to share the cake I made for my son's birthday on that theme. He recently became a father to a baby girl and is earning his Ph.D in clinical biochemistry. I am also not a professional. Around the cake I put a string of DNA (unfortunately the string broke in a few places, which my son tells me, is bad news - LOL), and on the cake a baby girl, a laptop computer, some test tubes and biochemistry books.
