Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I'm learning to paint fondant, and I mix vodka with the Gels to make the colors.

I know that certain amounts of alcohol are supposed to evaporate out,but any idea how much???

I've eaten fondu that had wine in it and the alcohol was suppose to cook out, and trust me it didn't!

has anyone had a problem with this?

According to a Food Science program I used to watch on the Food Network. There is always some residual alcohol left after baking/cooking. However it is a minuscule amount.

I hope this was helpful :)

Vodka has such a high proof that if you set out a small amount of it, it will amaze you how quick it will evaporate. I can't imagine there would be any alcohol left if the cake was done in advance. But all that being said, if you have any concerns, you can always use clear vanilla instead. It has alcohol as well though, lol! Hope this might help, lol :)

MOST OF IT SHOULD EVAPORATE ! 99% TO 100%...IF ANY THING > THE TASTE MY BE THERE FROM THE WINE OR VODKA ,NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM .

thanks! just wondering since the smell of the alcohol was making me dizzy while I was painting it! :)

YES THATS SO TRUE ! IV MIXED IT WITH GEL , OR LUSTER DUST , AND LET IT SIT ! GO BACK TO IT AND HAVE TO ADD MORE VODKA ! IT WAS GONE !

I never had any problems with mines either on painting fondant. For cake like fruit cake I soak the fruits in wine to still get the taste in the cake.

ONLY PROBLEMS IV HAD, WAS IT EVAPORATING B4 I FINISHED PAINTING  WITH IT ! ATER MIXING WITH THE GEL OR LUSTER DUST !

I've had the same issues with evaporation...wouldn't worry too much about residule alcohol. Once it's dry, you're good.

yeah, I noticed after I painted it that it looked like the color fainted, that's probably why!
