I am trying to get a Cottage Food Law passed in Wisconsin. I could really use help. I have started an on-line petition for Wisconsin residents to sign. I have to put the finishing touches on the letter for lawmakers and would like to personally hand deliver them to lawmakers in the future. Would anyone be interested in going to Madison as a group to find lawmakers that would be willing to support a CFL and/or be the author of the bill.
Here is the on-line petition, your can share it with friends and family.

Thank You for taking the initiative and getting this ball going....please keep me posted on how it is going....I am not very political but I know it takes getting to the right group of legislatures...if you have a copy of the letter you are sending out maybe I can get them to the politicians in my area....

Shannon - I signed the petition, and in the comments section I posted the link to the law that was just enacted in Florida so they have something to base a Wisconsin law on. Let's get this done!! If you put together a Madison itinerary and set up meetings, I am willing to come along and talk to lawmakers.
I spoke with Dept. of Ag today and found out a representative is already looking into a Cottage Food Law, he called it the cookie law :) After talking with several people it is not a published bill it's only in the beginning stages. I have left a voice message with the representative. This is great news as this has started the ball rolling into amending the statue so that anyone can have a home baking business in Wisconsin quicker than if I had started it. If you haven't done so already and live in WI please sign the petition below and share with WI friends and families. I don't know if the plans would be to get it into this session or not. It would be great if it was!! Please share and get the word out... even if it means starting a new discussion board.
Who is the representative working on it and who else in politics can we contact to keep it going so it does get passed? I am not familiar with which group (congressman, senators, assembly or Govenor to contact) If our wonderful Govenor wants to create more jobs here in WI this would be a start.....
The representative that is the author is Janis Ringhand. She was approached by the Farmer's Union last month. Specifics are still being worked through but they are hoping to have it done in the next couple weeks. Once it's published they will contact me so that we can look at it and contact our representatives to encourage co-authoring the bill. This is also when we see something we don't agree with we share our concerns. I will keep you up to date.
Thank You, I look forward to hearing more in the future....

Shannon thank you so much for getting this started. I too have been in your same position with everything and am now trying to find ways to continue to do what I love but also be able to afford the costs. So far the costs seem to be winning out :( I have posted a link on my facebook page Treat Yourself Sweets and have a bunch of people who have signed the petition. I also personally wrote an e-mail to Representative Janis Ringhand in hopes that anything can help. If there is anything you need help with I would absolutely love to help out! I would also be willing to go to Madison with you and hand deliver the letter to the lawmakers. This bill is very dear to my heart. When I talked to one of the food inspectors for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture a couple of weeks ago she made aware of this proposed bill and said things could be changing so I sought out some other information and found you and the petition.
Again please let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help!!!
Is there anything new about the petition or if the senate is going to be looking at a cottage food law for home bakers?
If I am correct, I believe Texas also recently (last year?) enacted a Cottage Food Act. Their limit is $50,000, but Florida's is $15,000. ??? What gives? I don't recall the person's name that pushed for our Cottage Food Act, but I'll see what I can find out for you if you think she might be able to give you some good tips.
There is no further information. Because this is an election year for WI state senators there will be no fall session. They will meet in late January or early February. My understanding is the bill will be completed and introduced to the senate. I will be notified when it's suppose to be introduced. When it's introduced we then can get support from our appointed senators and request any changes. So, for now we wait and just ask our friends/family to sign the petition. It would be awesome if I could bring the petition to the senators when the bill is introduced with 1,000 signatures. :) Thanks for your support!!
certainly has been a crazy year for us. Now that the recall is over maybe things can get done. Can't wait until elections are all over with. I signed the petition but will be asking others to sign as well. Thank you for doing this for us.

Do we have any new news on the bill and if it will be introduced in the senate?
