It also seems fake because if he can run such a successful business he should be able to make smart, tough and sound decisions and it seems like he can't.

I think the cake competition is to just feed Buddy's ego. He gets to lord it over them and see how they are intimidated by him. I used to like cake Boss whne it first came out, but it is now all about Buddy's ego and quite contrived.

I agree - I think the competition has gotten quite childish.  What's up with destroying the cakes that don't win? What a waste!  I like that last week he acknowledged that they all did a decent job on their fondant-covered cakes during the first part - that was nice to see.  But most of it seems really scripted.  And, is it just me, or does it seem like when he pulls in other people from the bakery or his sisters or family, they look less than pleased to be there?  Nobody ever seems happy on that show! It's not very fun to watch this season. :(

Thats what I thought too. How sad. :(

I saw at the end of the last show that it was decicated to him, but did not know why. i thought maybe he died in an accident or something.

I watch all the cake shows and there are some that are now using a whole less cake in thier show pieces. They also use a lot of rice krispies treats in my mind this is not cake. Maybe a little can be used but come on the stuff they are putting in these so called cakes can not be called cake in my mind. Am I the only one that thinks this way?

Sorry forgot where I was posting this. My prayers go out to this mans family.

Nope, you are not alone, Patricia. I see it too and I think that things have gotten way out of whack concerning the cake competitions. This season of Next Great Baker has really been a big disappointment to me. It's back biting and dog eat dog and finger pointing and demoralizing and I cannot stand the destruction of someones hard work with bulldozers and the like. To me that is just down right demeaning to an individuals hard work in such a short time. I'm sure that TLC has a lot to do with it too, but Buddy certainly does not have to agree to it. It's all about money and ratings and no longer about the beauty and the creativity of something made out of cake.

...and what's worse is that some of these people are making themselves look bad. I wouldn't even order a BISCUIT from Minerva! Buddy is already established. These other people may be looking for an opportunity in the near future and because of the negative way they reacted to a situation on the show... may loose out. 15 minutes of fame can easily turn into a couple years of shame.

Oh, man, you hit it right on the head of the nail, Queen of Sweets. It truly does discredit each and every one of these people. How will they recover after such a 'shaming' of their talents? It just cheapens the whole industry.

What was that???  Oh, it was just the bullet I dodged this summer.

Oh my goodness! So true and words to live by!
