how do i make wedding cakes look more attractive but not too colourful

Personally, I think white on white is about as beautiful as you can get! You can add edible glitter, embellishments, ribbons, white flowers, etc. If you do an image search on google for white on white, there are some amazing and beautiful cakes just done in all white.

I agree, white is always beautiful and elegant.  I also really love Black and white.  I find keeping the colors simple provides an elegant cake especially when it comes to wedding cakes!  Good luck :)

You could wrap the cake in some icing sheets that you have punched designs out of using a paper punch. It gives a subtle dimension to the cake without being overpowering.
