Hi Amanda!
Here is a photo tutorial on how to make arms. Be sure to add tylose to your fondant when modeling. It will help your models dry faster. The tutorial is for clay but the principal works the same for fondant. If you are making a sleeved arm, make the arm whatever color shirt is then add hand.

Hope this helps!

Hi Amanda,

I use Debbie Brown's method for scupting arms and hands and they usually turn out pretty well.  She sculpts the entire arm and hand out of one piece.  Start with a log of clay, pinch the elbow and bend it to create the joint.  Flatten the end of the log for the hand.  Cut and shape the fingers by pinching and twisting.  Using tylose powder is essential because once you get the shape you like, fondant dries too slow and things sag!

Hope this helps a little!

Good luck!

Allison

Thank-you both of you for your advice. That's gr8. Will invest in tylose. My person was sagging when I sat him up & joined the head with the body. X

Hi Amanda

Check out also, Extra icing website....Lorraine McKay.  She also has tutorials on You Tube. Think her channel

Ainse2?  You can go on You Tube and type her name, she will come up. Her figures are awesome

thanx so much june.  Just checked it out and its exactly what i need. great tips x

Thought you would like her.  She is a fellow Scot, don't you know!!!  From Glasgow area I believe.  She came to Canada a year ago for a 2 day workshop. The cake shop was way to far to drive for me, and the fee  was  mucho $$$$ to take her class.  But both classes sold out in less than a day after being  advertised.  It would be great to have "hands on", but most of those types of classes are expensive. Of course flying over from the UK to teach, i'm sure they had to  guarantee a certain fee to her to make it worth her while.  Ck out my photo's on my page.  I made a Ewe on a baby shower cake from one of Lorraine's tutorials.  I actually bought 4 of her tutorials on her website online store. Money well spent.  She actually emails them to you in a download.  Funny thing tho.  Had to have my hubby put in x-tra long computer paper, as the paper in my printer was too short to accomodate all the info.  Weird......hubby figured that is the type of paper used in the printers in the UK.

Anyway, have fun making your figures.
