My question is can I make and decorate this cake and put it in the fridge untill Saturday? Making it on Thursday Night. I allways heard you cant put fondant in the fridge.. Please help me with this.

Patricia - you will get many answers to this question.

This is my own personal method:  I refrigerate my fondant all the time, but use almost exclusively homemade marshmallow fondant or Duff's black and red fondant.  I think it will be fine if you make it Thursday and deliver on Saturday.  You may notice some condensation on the cake after taking it out of the fridge, but if you let it come to room temp it will disappear on its own. (It will look shiny, but hey, it's a bottle! And bottles are shiny!)

Thank you very much for your fast response. Your right on the shiny.

I put my cakes in  the refrigerator and I have no trouble at all. But they say condensation can happen (the temp.setting in your refrigerator). Put the cake in the refrigerator for about an hour or two.... pull it out and let it set on the counter, if you see that it looks wet. Then take the cake and put it in a cardboard box closed. and set it back in the refrigerator. It will be good then, the box keeps the moisture out.

Good Luck,

Candy

Maybe that's why I don't have an issue, Candy! I usually put my finished cakes in cardboard boxes when they are finished, so the cardboard must be absorbing the moisture. :)

This picture is of my very 1st cake (about 17 months ago). I didn't know at that time what happens when you put fondant in a refrigerator, so I didn't put mine in a box. Now, they ALL go in a box before being refrigerated.

I was fortunate- these colors didn't run.  Keep in mind that red and black are notorious for running when wet.

1st Cake

I have always heard to never put fondant in the fridge - which has never once proven true in my case.

I use Satin Ice or homemade and have even on occasion used Wilton.  Never ever had a problem with any fondant method or brand.

I have no clue why some people have had it melt while other don't.  You'll have to trial and error on your own, I guess.
