Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

To start off, I know this is a cake network but I have a question leaning more towards a bakery. I do cakes a little but am no where as good as you guys.

Anyways, here it goes. I have an offer to get free rent for a year to start my bakery (mostly cookies, pies, quick breads, and artisan breads) which is great, but I am not sure about how the small business loans work. I am in no financial situation to fund this out of pocket so a loan would be my only choice. When you get a loan do you start paying it back right away or is there a grace period? Also, how much can I expect to spend on a commercial oven and supplies? Thanks so much!

start by drawing up a business plan, in doing this you will estimate the cost of startup, I have done research, without having to buy an oven, i did however include walkin freezer and cooler, display case, tables shelving, mixer etc.  even cash register, once you start writing you'll be amazed how much it takes, not to discourage you though... the profit on bake goods is a high markup, i was a bakery manager.  anyway, the cost I estimated was around 40,000-50,000... but that also included the first 3 months rent.   research your area or nearby area, for having a going out of business sale,.. best of luck to you :)
