Crystal ~ NO, YOU SHOULD NOT THROW IN THE TOWEL AND GIVE UP!!! We all have our bad days and just because one cake didn't work out the way you hoped it would, it doesn't mean that the next one won't. Let this one go. Your son loved it and that's all that matters. Get some rest and brush this one off. One day you will look back and laugh at this. For now, have a wonderful Mother's Day!!!

Crystal, Diana is right...don't give it up over Sponge Bob...he's not worth it!!! ;~) I too am new and learning everyday. I know I will NEVER create some of the masterpieces I have seen, BUT I do know that I can keep learning and practicing and I will find my favorite thing to do and do it well. Also when you have a bad day, just go look at all the pieces you HAVE created that made someone, even yourself, happy! That works for me every time! Remember this is FOOD and we sometimes have no control over what it will do or won't do for us! Have a Happy Mother's Day! and keep on creating!

Don't give up. Start with a smaller project til you get the hang of it. But never give up!!!!

I made a cake yesterday for my daughter's birthday... it was beautiful... a three section waterfall cake with a tiki hut on top. Well, it was beautiful unitl the corner of the top level (that had the tiki hut on it) broke away and fell from the cake... talk about a landslide... The whole corner was gone. But she loved the cake, and these things happen. I'll be right back up and running this week... brush it off and don't let it get to you. It's all a learning process. And the best part is, this art is eaten, so there will be no lasting reminder that it wasn't exactly what you wanted it to be! :-)

Thanks ladies my family was making jokes about the cake. And it hurt my feelings because I spent so much time on this. See I have only made regular cakes except for a purse cake that I did. And so I thought I could step out the box and do something different. Well spongebob is not as easy as it seems. I guess this is just another learning experience.

I had put him on facebook on my page and didn't label who he was but it seemed like everybody knew who he was. At least you recognized who he was :) This was the second time I attempt to make it. The first try i didn't even get as far as the fondant. The cake wasn't high enough and then I had cut the cake uneven so I had to trash it. ( I know I know all that good cake gone to waste).

You should have made some cake balls!!! Then at least you wouldn't have wasted all that yummy cake!!

I know how you feel.. i made spongebob last weekend for my four year old nephew.. i had placed the eyes to far apart and he looked just wrong!! But in the end all of the kids knew it was spongebob and they dug right in!!.. Like everyone else said.. we just have those days... tomorrow is a new day.

Don't give up! But i know how disheartening it is when you have a certain image in ur head and it doesn't turn out the way u want it. That's what happened in my attempt to do a topsyturvy/wonky cake for my bro-in-law couple wks ago. Even now the thought of doing another one of those cakes make me nervous and i was planning to do it for my son's baptism this month! I might have a go anyway. .... So, no don't give up! We all have those days :) We just have to keep practicing!

Crystal, trust me if I posted all of my flop cakes you'd die laughing!!! I haven't given up either...I try to work around my weather climate the best I can....and from what responses I got from my last discussion posting there's a lot of different tricks to just making a simple sheet cake....I'm not into the fondant cakes right now... want to stick with the "traditional" buttercream cakes until I can reach a point that they are above and beyond what they are now...I'm not giving up either....if this was your first SB cake...then the next one will be better....sure it takes lots of time and effort to do it, the smiles you get after it's all said and done is what really matters!!! I believe that's what your son thought :)
