A silhouette of square dancers on top with a color cordinated ruffle around the bottom to match the skirts would be cute if you are limited to a sheet cake. Simple yet still a touch of fun.
You could make squares of "denim" and plaid as a frame, with a ruffle along the bottom as a border and then the silhouette like Dawnetta suggested in the middle.
Neryl where did you find the silhouette of the square dancers? I have not been able to locate any pictures like this. Dawnetta and Eileen I love these ideas.
That's not mine, just posted the link for you :) Patchwork cutters has got a dancing couple cutter.

I found a couple. Just google square dance clipart and pick the one you want. When I use these, I just print them the size I want and make my own template (very secret method, lay the paper on a towel and use a toothpick to poke small holes around the outline - then lay it on the crusted butter cream and press lightly to leave an imprint of the outline).
I'd love to see the finished cake to see what you come up with!
I like this one with the fiddler in the picture... http://www.freefever.com/freeclipart/sports/dance.html
