Confession time here. I overbooked myself this week with cake gifts for friends. I did it to myself so I have no one else to blame.
For the last few weeks I've been extremely busy, not just cakes though, life in general. Because of that I haven't been able to get my Christmas shopping done. Until Sunday I had only purchases a couple of things online. We've finished most of it now but I still haven't shopped for my husband and haven't a clue what to get him. We are on an extreme budget these days so we aren't spending much so I want to make sure what I purchase is great.
Last night I needed to bake 1 cheesecake and decorate 3 cakes. I knew it would be a task but I selected simple designs so I thought I could get it done. Well, my fondant thought otherwise! I made a new batch of red fondant last week and it just wasn't right. I worked with it for 2 hours, ripped it off the cake twice - literally - and tossed it in the trash. Just the fondant but the cake almost make it there, too. After a temper tantrum, crying fit and a pitty party I ended up using my new snowflake cutters on some white fondant, airbrushed my cakes blue and stuck them on, piped a border around the bottom and called them done! Yes, 3 cakes, different shapes and flavors but decorated the same - who cares!
Now, just 1 more cheesecake and another cake for gifts. Sometime I need to get my own Christmas cake done.
Anyone else a little too stressed this week?

Oh yes Deah, its that time of the year............................. I know exactly how you feel! I have family and friends coming home for the 24th evening and 25th lunch, I have to finish my baking today to start distributing my platters tomorrow, I have to start on the main course, the dessert and the cake. This year I told myself I would start early and have a relatively stree free Christmas, but what do you know that never happened. I am still scrambling and will scramble till the 25th. I got up this morning with butterflies in my tummy thinking of all that needs to be done.
Don't worry Deah, in the end it will all be worth it, when you see everybody smiling and having fun, so all of us "stressers" (no such word eh!) chin up and have fun too................... have a fantastic holiday.
Oh Deah, sweetie, so sorry to hear you had a stressful holiday.
I had promised myself I wouldn't take any cake requests for Christmas week. And I didn't! Until my husband came to me an said "Can you do a 6-pack of cupcakes for each of my employees as my (don't you love it? MY?) gift to them?" And of course I said SURE! Then he said "And can you do a cake for the company Christmas lunch?" And of course I said SURE! Then I figured since I was already making 72 cupcakes (they have a small company) why not just double the batches and give them away as gifts to my friends? Yep - I was stressed out and ticked off at myself about halfway into the process.
Those of us who do this as a hobby need to remember that hobbies are for enjoyment!! And if you aren't enjoying it then what's the point?? well - other than the ooohs and aaaahs (don't you just love those?). ;)
