Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am more of a cake girl, but took on a cookie project this week. I'm baking giant cookie cakes and followed the recipe exactly to the t. When the recipe said the cookies were done when the edges were golden and the center would still be soft, take them out, and I did. Well, now I've got raw cookie dough centers because I evidentally did not bake them long enough, and I didn't know this until they completely cooled overnight. Is it possible to re-bake them? My gut says no, it will not work, but wanted to ask to see if there's any hope in salvaging all this product. Thanks for the help!

Hey Cindy... sounds like a yummy mess! I would not rebake them... I think it would make them like biscotti... very hard. But if you do.. let us know! You always seem to pull off the greatest things! If you turn your oven temp down to 300 and bake them longer they should bake even. I bake all my cookies at 300 for 16 minutes. Never a hard cookie!
Thanks, Jeri. No, it didn't work. I tried re-baking them and it was more of a mess. Very hard around the edges and still raw in the center, no matter how long I left them in there! Sucks, 'cause I wasted product on 10 giant cookie cakes...about $50 worth! Ack! Stayed up 'til 4am baking them over again! Such is the baker's life, eh?
Bummer! I hate it when I have to toss things.... but I do have birds outside that love my mistakes! Not sure about the chocolate for them though.

To test to see if your cookies are done... press lightly in the middle of the cookie. If it springs back it's done, if not, bake for a minute or two longer. Also, I like to leave my cookies on the cookie sheets for a few minutes after I take them out of the oven. If they weren't baked long enough this helps them bake longer.
Im thinking no also.  Trial and error.  But i am also thinking half cooked dough,  hmmmm
CindyLou - I have to say I was thinking about you yesterday when I was baking a big sugar cookie for my daughter's birthday.  I remembered this post so made SURE it stayed in the oven until done. LOL!  I used a 10" cake pan with parchment paper on the bottom and it came out perfect.
As long is it is not a harmful or non healthy procedure, I would try almost anything re' your cookies.
ok,  I know this is probably a dumb question but... what is a giant cookie cake?  Is it just a giant cookie?  Would love to try one of these either way.  What recipe would I use?  This past month I have been really into cookies!
Yes, it's just a giant cookie.  I bake mine in foil pizza pans.  I use my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.  Just push the cookie dough down in the pan and make sure it is a uniform thickness all the way around.

I use Wilton's chocolate chip cookie recipe for their giant cookie pan and it's really good.
