Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi,

I am a home baker and have been baking for years.  I bake from scratch and also love the boxed WASC and all their additional varieties.

This past weekend I baked a WASC (cake mix version), 3 of them, 10x3, with the Wilton cake strips around pan, tested using thermometer (205 degrees).  One of the cakes just split in 3 or 4 sections.  I have never had that happen before.  Thankfully I had the other 2 cakes and was a 2nd cake I was making for same party, so I was able to get away with what I had.  Anyone know what went wrong? Cake mix and all ingredients were not old, just so you know.

I have never had that happen, Susan, and really have no idea.  I no longer use the baking strips and always use heating cores, baking at 340 degrees F.

Thanks Sandra, I will have to invest in heating cores, but I sure hope it never happens again.  First time in 30 plus years of baking.
