Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have a wedding cake coming up and the bride wants the top tier to have edible roses in shades of purple and leaves and other flowers in contrasting colors to compliment the roses and create a nice focal point.

What flowers would you recommend pairing with the roses? The bride mentioned magenta and white colored flowers but I'm not sure exactly which type of flower to go with. Any ideas?

Any links to sugar paste flower tutorials available?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Michael.  For inspiration, I googled purple roses wedding bouquets and this is what came up - a lovely array of flowers.  I have to say magenta and white is a good combo in my opinion.  also I love the light green colours with it or a very dusky pink.

As for the type of flower, freesias are always lovely for a wedding and there is a cutter available for them, or carnations?.

Someone posted and awesome thread on cake central with loads of links to flower tutorials, which you may find very useful.  Here it is -

Katy the links are very helpful, thank you!!! Purple goes with magenta or fuschia pink, light blue and white to balance the colors.
