What size heart Cynthia? ? Large, medim.... etc.?  The absolute easiest is any size star tip. The smallest of course will give you a smaller outine, like Wilton #13/14. A large # 18 to huge tip #48 will give a large outline with bold definition.  2hen dry you couldcalso paint with lustre dust.  Now the hardest  is thinned BC or royal icing.  You can use a #1 Wilton, very tiny, but easiest would be #7/8/9.  I would practice on a cutting board,  piece of waxed paper, & see which tip gave me the look I wanted.  Now to further confuse you..... you could pipe royal icing hearts onto wax paper, lift them off....  very carefully & place them on your cake.  Can also be done with melted chocolate.     Hope some of these ideas/suggestions are helpful.

As June says, Cynthia - depends on the sort of heart you are looking for and whether you want it plain or fancy.  The easiest way is probably this - if you have a heart shaped cutter, use it to lightly press an outline onto your cake.  You can then follow this outline with your chosen style of piping.  I would personally go for either a star tip or a plain writing tip.  Again, as June says, size would depend on the size of your heart.  If you have something in particular in mind, give us a few more details and I'll try to be more specific.
