Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Just a heads up! If any of you have a Big Lots store near you, they are putting out their spring/summer stock and yesterday when I was there I found the best straws for providing support that I have found anywhere. They were inexpensive too - under $2 (I think like a $1.82 or something like that) for 50, and they are really sturdy. Such a better quality than I have been buying. If you are near the store in Round lake Il, don't bother going there....I kinda bought them ALL. :-) Happy stacking!!

Sounds cool.

I discovered a store  that has sold paper products for about 100 years, mean that seriously,  that is now selling decorating supplies.  Went in with a friend for something,  & was surprised to see all the stuff. They had boxes of bubble straws for stacking cakes, like $2 for 50. And reusable silicone piping bags, 20 for $5.  Soooo much cheaper than Michael's or driving into Toronto to get this stuff! !  Don't you just love it when you find a bargoon!!!!!   :o)

Hmm I have a Big Lots about 25 minutes away.  I think I will go for a ride this week.  Tx for the heads up

Yep...love it! These are the bubble straws - well worth the trip! Happy shopping!!

I use bubble straws as dowels for I couldn't find dowels in our place. It's cheap and good for supporting tiered cakes.

I have used the straws for a 2 tier cake but am always too afraid to use them for heavier cakes.  That is a great price though!

Where is this? I need to know.

This store isn't in Ontario, or in Canada Hope. Only in USA. Believe there is one in the Buffalo/Niagra Falls NY area.  :o)

Okay took a little ride and got the last package of straws.  Also found there Nielsen-Massey pure vanilla extract

Ooooo will have to keep my eyes open for the vanilla...thanks! Bummer on only one package of straws.....

Yes June I always want to find a bargain specially cake decorating tools. I found a second hand shop selling brand new stainless steel cookie cutters just for 20 pesos (about 50 cents? ). I bought the bunny and flower cutters.

I happened on these last year at Big Lots and they work great!  Plus, they're huge so I feel like they give good support.  Heading to Big Lots to see if they have theirs in!

Just found out literally 2 days ago that a Big Lots is opening just down the street from where I live. Not sure if it will carry the same merchndise as in USA. Will have to wait & see.
