Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Has anyone here purchased any of the Craftsy Classes?  I have purchased several of them and I LOVE them.  So nice to learn from the professionals who are so willing to share their knowledge.  And if you keep your eyes open... you can get them half price a lot of time!

Yes Jeri

With the exception of my very 1st class, I got all the rest for 1/2 price. Waited till they had a sale & sent me a email. If you have patience, wait, they all eventually come on sale. I have 3, and hubby is away this week, so I can watch and have icing sugar and cake mess up to  my arm pits and not have to worry about cleaning up.... hee hee

:o)

I have quite a few and I have never paid full price.  they are great.  I am trying the paint on fondant this weekend.  have watched it but never done it, this is the weekend.  I'm very excited.

Let us know how the "paiting" goes Faith.  :o)

Hey ladies,

I too have done some! :) I just did the Cake Topper one...super cute.  There were some areas in the course that I wish were explained a little better, or zoomed into the pieces to understand better what the instructor was doing. But overall good.

I also like the FREE buttercream class :)

I am glad to hear others are having as much fun with them as I have!  I have gotten all of mine for $19.99 each.  They do run specials a lot!  Enjoy!!!

ok so I attempted the paint on fondant.  I couldn't get the tracing to come out dark enough to see.   I didn't let the fondant set long enough as I hurt my shoulder on Friday so I couldn't roll out the fondant last night.  I think for free hand it came out pretty good for my first attempt.  So I free handed some tulips, saw on a different tutorial.  anyway I have posted the pics.

Not bad Faith for a 1st try. Good for you!!!!  :o)

Yes June, I have a couple and all their free ones of course.  I think Joshua John Russell is a really good teacher.

Not at all bad for a first attempt Faith - well done.

I've been tring to follow the Jessica Harris class. Tried my first practice yesterday. Had trouble with the marshmallow fondant- too soft. The modeling chocolate strips kept breaking and they wouldn't transfer off the waxed paper. Finally just pulled out the piping bags and covered it with color. The final product fell far short of the sketch. Luckily, all traces are disappearing as we speak"

How frustrating for your Kym.  The end result looked great anyway and don't give up.  Practice......

The cake looks very pretty Kym.  Your own creation. Next time, pop the modelling chocolate strips in the freezer for a few minutes to firm up. Much, much easier to transfer. And as far as the fondant... that just takes practice. Just like all cake decorating.... practice, practice, practice....   :o)
